Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Just Excellent!

I purchased this top about 18 months ago as a mid layer while backpack hunting. I have found it to be a superior base layer, mid layer and outer layer to any of my other wool or synthetic pieces. I now wear a lightweight wool base layer and this as my mid layer instead of the Polartech fleece half zip that I had been wearing. As a mid layer, I immediately realized how much better temperature regulation and moisture management this shirt provides instead of the fleece. During high exertion I sweat less and when I do sweat, it dried more quickly. I just feels less stuff than any fleece. When I do sweat, the shirt stinks less than any other synthetic as a bonus. I have now completely abandoned fleece in any part of my layering system. On a recent trip to Central Asia, I used this shirt as a base layer, a mid layer and an outer layer. I was impressed with the durable nature of this shirt and how little it itches compared to other wool brands I've used.

If I could have anything I wish for, I would have a crew neck or mock neck shirt made of this material with a 1/4 zip and some sort of kangaroo pocket. The kangaroo pocket would have to have some kind of lightweight material against the body to prevent the double layer of this wool from becoming too hot. Until then, I'll use this shirt outside any time the temperature is below 60F.

Thanks for making a great product. I can say it is absolutely worth the expense!!

Richard,

Thank you for giving us your detailed feedback on your Minus33 Yukon Men's Expedition Crew. As a personal favorite of mine as well, it's great to hear that you enjoy the quality, performance and versatility that the Yukon offers.

I have also forwarded your suggestion for a crew neck or mock neck shirt made of our expedition fabric, with a 1/4 zip and a version of a kangaroo pocket, over to our product development team to be considered for the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to leave us such a great review.

The Yukon crew is excellent. Very comfortable and heavy weight and fits my extra large tall frame as advertised. Unfortunately, the -33 socks I’ve bought in the same order are much smaller than advertised, and I will need to return them, or give them away to a medium sized person.

Barry,

We are happy to hear you like your 100% Merino Wool Yukon Men's Crew - Expedition. Please call us and a customer service representative would be happy to help you!

High quality base layer, kayaking and skiing

6'2, 205lb, size Large Tall - Perfect Fit
The texture, durability, and cut of this sweater make it very multifaceted. While I primarily wear it under a drysuit for cold weather kayaking, I also wore it to meet my wife's parents for the first time. After five years the sweater looks new in a way that is unlike any other piece of gear I own. No pilling, no wear marks, it just looks great. I went with the long version of the sweater which I highly recommend if you are using it in the outdoors. Being able to properly tuck the shirt in or slide it lower is a really nice addition. I will say this sweater is not as warm as other wool sweaters which is fine because it makes up for it durability. No doubt it still insulates, but consider this a mid layer. Pull the trigger with this sweater, well worth it.
